DAVID PLEAT has always known Boothy’s quality, signing him for Sheffield Wednesday, taking him to Tottenham and selecting him for the League Under 21 side.
“Andy is unselfish in everything that he does and always puts team before self,” said Pleat, now a pundit (above).
“As a club player he was everything you could wish for. He was always punctual, trained hard and played determinedly. He was also a fine representative of the club off the field.
“I am delighted he has survived the football jungle for so many productive years because he really is the perfect professional.
“It’s the right time for him to retire because he has got to look after himself physically for years to come, and it’s a great decision by the club to keep him involved.”
