TOWN will be taking Cole to Newcastle – as well as a fully-fit squad.

New coaching recruit and former St James’ Park strike star Andrew Cole will take a session with Lee Clark’s players this afternoon.

Cole will link up with a party including midfielder Jim Goodwin, who is fit again following a knee operation, at the North-East base Town will use to prepare for tomorrow’s Carling Cup second-round showdown.

Clark, who like the rest of his coaching staff has strong Newcastle links, explained: “Coley was one of the best in the business as a player, and I’m certain my lads will benefit from his input.”

On the overnight stay, the manager explained: “We’d thought of going up on the day.

“But there are a few sets of roadworks on the A1 and the last thing we need is to get stuck in a jam and struggle to get the journey out of our legs.”

Having sold 3,500 tickets by close of business last night, Town hope to be backed by more than 4,000 supporters as they bid to become the first side this season to topple the Toon, who are one of four clubs on 10 points at the top of the Championship.

With no admission on the night, tickets must be bought from the Galpharm by 1.00 tomorrow.

“We really value their backing and we’ll try to give them something to cheer,” added Clark.
