TOWN have defended their policy of bringing out a new change kit every season.

Keen fans will want to wear the altered blue and white striped home shirt carrying the logo of new sponsors the Yorkshire Building Society.

But the introduction of the fresh change strip of white shirts and blue shorts for 2005-06 means some fans will be forking out for a new away top as well - just 12 months after buying the red and black striped version.

That has brought charges of exploitation, but Town chief executive Andrew Watson doesn't agree.

"It's a matter of balancing the revenue from shirt sales with the interests of the supporters," he said.

"Replica kits are all about generating income, there's no getting away from it.

"But our home kit, which is by far the best seller, is only changed every two years.

"And even though there is a new second kit each season, the previous change strip becomes the third-choice kit, so it remains concurrent.

"We've never tried to hide our policy of kit renewal and it's all clearly laid out in our customer charter.

"Overall we think it's a fair policy, and there are clubs where kits are changed more often than here.

"The replica kit industry has been going on for a long time - I can remember wearing Town's blue shirt with two white stripes down the sleeve as a child in the Seventies - and there have always been changes to the designs."

In the event, those wanting to buy the new Admiral- manufactured shirts will have to bide their time.

Retail manager Michele Adamson is awaiting a delivery date for both the home and away outfits.

Town have taken stock of Ibiza pre-season tournament T-shirts, which cost £9.99 adults and £8.99 childrens at the Stadium Shop - and they're already selling fast!

The club are due to take around 250 fans to the island for the two-match trip.

Town jet out on Sunday and play Coventry in their first pre-season match on Tuesday.

The second game will be against QPR or the Ibiza XI.
