BENIK AFOBE is staying at Town for another month.

Arsenal today processed the paperwork which means their 17-year-od starlet will be at the Galpharm through to Saturday, January 8, when non-league Dover Athletic visit in the third round of the FA Cup.

The development has delighted Town boss Lee Clark and gives the young Gunner the chance to add to his three-goal account when his team go to Tranmere Rovers for tomorrow’s rearranged Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern area semi-final.

After that Town have key League I games against leaders Brighton (at home on Saturday), Brentford (away on Saturday, December 18), Hartlepool (home on Boxing Day), Southampton (away on Tuesday, December 28), Carlisle (away on New Year’s Day) and Sheffield Wednesday (home on Monday, January 3).

England Under 19 ace Afobe, who scored twice in Town’s 5-2 JPT win at Rotherham last month, will be available to Arsenal for their FA Youth Cup third-round tie against Darlington at Barnet tomorrow week.

“I think both Benik and ourselves have benefited from his time here so far, and we were more than keen to keep him for longer,” said Clark.

Both Town, who were due at Dagenham and Redbridge, and Tranmere, who made a wasted trip to Exeter, were hit by postponements on Saturday.
