Chris Powell wants Jed Steer to keep the clean sheet he believes his on-loan performances have merited when Huddersfield Town visit Wolves.

The Aston Villa stopper will make his fifth and potentially final Town appearance in the lunchtime clash at Molineux (12.30).

The 23-year-old former Norwich City player’s loan ends next Thursday.

And with Joe Murphy on the road to recovery after a calf injury, it’s not certain manager Powell will seek an extension.

Town have won two, drawn one and lost one of Steer’s four games so far.

And Powell is pleased with the contribution of one of five loan players currently on the books.

“Jed came in as an emergency because of Joe Murphy’s injury,” he explained.

Joe Murphy

“He has fitted in well with the group and done well out on the pitch.

“It’s just a shame he hasn’t got a clean sheet. His performances have warranted one.

“The loan ends next week, so we have a few days to see where we are at and where Joe Murphy is at.

“He has been working with (goalkeeping chief) Nick Colgan.

“And the international break provides the chance for him to push things along.

“We also have ti speak to Aston Villa and see what they want.

“I know Jed has enjoyed himself here, so we will see what happens.”

Norwich-born Steer, a Villa player since 2013, has had previous loans at Yeovil Town, Cambridge United and Doncaster Rovers.
