Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer hopes David Dunn will be available for Saturday’s Championship clash with Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The popular former England midfielder, in his second spell at Ewood Park, has been out injured since January.

Bowyer, whose side are ninth, explained: “David has been out on the grass and joined in with the group for a little bit and we certainly hope he’ll feature before the end of the season.”

Blackburn are under a transfer embargo after breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Dunn, 35, is out of contract in the summer and, asked whether he will get a new deal, Bowyer said: “We’ve got to sit down with the owners and discuss where we’re going.

“The embargo will have a massive effect on what we can do in the summer.”

Dunn, from Great Harwood in Lancashire, came through Blackburn’s academy system.

He had a three-and-a-half-year stint at Birmingham City, who bought him for £5.5m in July 2003.

Blackburn re-signed him in a £2.2m deal in January 2007.

His sole England outing was as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Portugal at Villa Park in September 2002.

Calf injury victim Dunn’s most recent game for Rovers was in the 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round win over Swansea City at Ewood in January.

Blackburn went on to reach the quarter-finals, losing 1-0 to Liverpool in a home replay after a goalless draw at Anfield.

Bowyer’s squad include two former Town players, striker Jordan Rhodes and keeper Simon Eastwood.
