Blackpool have been hit with a £50k fine and a severe warning over their future conduct following the final-day pitch invasion of 2014/15 against Huddersfield Town.

The FA charge, which is subject to appeal, has been denied by Pool after failing to stop their fans from storming onto the field in the 48th minute of the match against Huddersfield Town to protest against owner Karl Oyston at the end of last term, leading to the match being abandoned.

The Football League angered Town supporters by awarding a point apiece to Town and Pool which prevented Chris Powell's side from finishing above rivals Leeds United.

What about compensation?

But travelling Terriers fans that day will now be able to get answers on compensation, as The Examiner understands the FA's decision regarding the abandonment will in turn allow the Football League to rule on any possible refunds for Town supporters.

The Lancashire side have seen one pre-season friendly at Lancaster City abandoned due to another second-half pitch invasion and Morecambe recently called off a scheduled friendly due to the cost of policing the fixture.

That match was eventually played behind closed doors and, as part of the charge, Neil MacDonald's men will have to play their first home game of the season against Rochdale, who Town lost 4-3 to in a pre-season friendly last weekend, without any supporters inside Bloomfield Road.

The statement in full read: "Blackpool have been fined £50,000 and severely warned as to future conduct, subject to any appeal, following a crowd incident on 2 May 2015.

"The FA charge, which the club denied, was for failing to control spectators resulting in a pitch incursion which caused Blackpool's game against Huddersfield Town to be abandoned.

"Following the Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, the club have also been ordered to play its first home competitive game of the 2015/16 season behind closed doors. This part of the sanction will be suspended for one year and will be immediately effective in respect of the game following (whether in that current season or the following season) any further pitch incursion that results in a suspension of play whereby the referee directs that players shall leave the field of play."
