Brentford striker Lasse Vibe will miss the Championship curtain-raiser with Huddersfield Town.

Rather than the John Smith's Stadium, Vibe will be aiming to get on the scoresheet in Rio de Janeiro after being selected for the Danish football squad for the summer Olympics.

Vibe, who has scored once in 10 international appearances, has been called up as one of three permitted over-age players.

And with his country's first group game taking place on August 4, he will definitely be absent from the Brentford squad on the Championship's opening weekend.

The 29-year-old netted home and away against David Wagner's men last term.

Named on the subs bench for the final day clash in May, which Brentford won 5-1, he netted within minutes of entering the fray just after the hour and set up the fifth goal for John Swift.

Vibe enjoyed a sensational end to last season, scoring seven times in as many games and the Bees were hopeful he could hit the ground running in 2016/17.

Denmark's group games conclude on August 10, but the final doesn't take place until August 20, meaning Vibe could miss up to five Brentford games in league and cup before returning to London.
