BRIGHOUSE Town’s second Junior Day proved to be a roaring success.

Brighouse Terriers, Tigers, Battyeford and Overthorpe Under 9 teams played a round robin competition displaying football of a high standard.

The bumper crowd were entertained by all the teams, who showed plenty of skills and ability and scored some spectacular goals.

There were also outstanding saves from the keepers and gritty defending, and after six closely contested games Brighouse Terriers lifted the trophy, with all the runners-up being presented with certificates provided by Unique Print solutions of Halifax.

The Overthorpe and Battyeford players then led the Brighouse Town onto the pitch for the main match in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division (a 3-1 win over Armthorpe), with Brighouse giving a guard of honour.

Brighouse Juniors manager Richard Brearley, along with Overthorpe’s Dave Wilson and Battyeford’s Neill Harrison and Dave Hall, united in their gratitude to Brighouse Town for staging the event – and all look forward to taking part in the next one.

At half time in the main game, the teams took part in a penalty shoot-out which was played out in great spirit.
