PAUL QUINN looked ahead to Brighouse Town’s marathon FA Vase fourth-round trip to the Isle of Wight and quipped: “I think we’ll have to use every means of transport available to get there.”

While AFC Emley will play host to Eastern Counties League side Hadleigh United, from Suffolk, in one of 16 ties on Saturday, January 19, fellow Northern Counties East League club Brighouse will go to Newport, of the Wessex League.

Brighouse, who have their sights set on winning promotion to the Evo-Stik (Northern Premier) League and have a big NCEL Premier Division game at Long Eaton United tonight, have already got further in the Vase than ever before.

Now they’ll make the longest trip in their history at 273 miles, and Quinn, whose side were 4-1 home winners over Derbyshire’s Holbrook Sports in the third round on Saturday, said: “The lads are buzzing at the prospect of a trip like this.

“We fancied something a bit different, and going to the Isle of Wight is certainly that. The boys really are buzzing at the prospect.

“Obviously it will involve an overnight stay and the last leg of the journey will have to be by ferry and coach, but we’re looking into flying or taking the train down to Southampton as well as doing it by road.”

AFC Emley, one of Quinn’s former clubs as a player, claimed an impressive 3-1 third-round victory at Barnoldswick United.
