Brighouse Town are within one win of promotion to the Northern Premier League.

A 4-0 home victory over Lincoln Moorlands Railway stretched their lead at the top of the Northern Counties East League to four points with three games to go.

A draw at home to Retford United on Saturday would all but seal title glory.

But boss Paul Quinn, whose side have a game in hand in nearest rivals Tadcster Albion, will want to make sure by earning an eighth straight victory.

Brighouse are hoping for a bumper gate after 364, their best crowd of the season so far, saw the clash with basement side Railway.

Tom Matthews set the ball rolling with his 41st goal of the season in the 13th minute and Ernest Boafo put away a 37th-minute penalty,

James Hurtley made it three on the stroke of half-time and Joe Jagger notched the fourth seven minutes from time.

“We were a big lethargic at times, but we got the win we all wanted, and now we move on to Saturday,” said a very focused Quinn.

“We will have to be focused, because Retford will want to come and spoil the party, and we certainly aren’t getting carried away.”

Brighouse complete their season with a double against Bridlington Town, at home on Monday afternoon and away on Saturday, April 26.
