PAUL QUINN says there’s no way he will allow Brighouse Town’s FA Vase exploits to become a distraction as his side continue to push for promotion to the Evo-Stik (Northern Premier) League.

Town, through to the last 32 of the Vase and facing a trip to the Isle of Wight to face Newport in the fourth round on January 19, are third in the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Nostell MW.

Manager Quinn, frustrated by Tuesday’s scheduled game at Long Eaton United being frozen off, is determined to keep pace with leaders Bridlington Town, who are six points better off, and second-placed Scarborough Athletic, four points in front.

The Nostell meeting is one of six league games, including a home Boxing Day derby against Liversedge, before the trip to the South coast and Quinn said: “We’re all looking forward to the Newport tie, but equally we know there’s a lot of football to be played before we go down there.

“All the lads want to be involved in the Vase, because it’s our version of the FA Cup, and I’ve told them to use it as an incentive.

“Those who perform in the league will get their chance against Newport.”

l FC Halifax Town are at home to Maidstone United in the second round of the FA Trophy tomorrow.

Halifax are seeking an eighth straight win in all competitions against the Isthmian League side.
