Facts

Huddersfield Town secured a 0-0 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion and with it the guarantee of safety as they moved on to 52 points with a committed performance at the Amex.

Nahki Wells squandered a brilliant late opening to steal all three points when he smashed against the base of the post with just three minutes left, but Albion also hit the woodwork on two occasions, with Mustapha Carayol and full-back Bruno both unlucky.

It was a fair scoreline in the end though, with neither side offering quite enough to merit the win.

Town team (3-5-2): Smithies; Smith, Hudson, Lynch; Scannell, Butterfield, Gobern, Coady, James; Wells (Wallace, 96), Miller. Not used: Murphy, Edgar, Hogg, Lolley, Carroll, Majewski.

Analysis

Consecutive clean sheets should not be under-estimated - Brighton may not have scored in their last three heading into this but they still have an array of talented midfielders and forwards and this was reward for a rigid defensive structure.

Town never looked like they would crumble when Brighton threatened to lay siege to their goal late on and were good value for a second clean sheet on the spin, a feat they have only achieved once this term.

Main man

Mark Hudson - Once again proved the leader for Town at the back with an assured display and displayed a bravery to come out of defence and intercept a number of slack passes into the isolated Leon Best in attack and showed a responsibility when the likes of Tommy Smith were beaten.

Bigger picture

TOWN ARE SAFE! - The Terriers can start definitively planning for an assault on the second tier once more next season and showed that they are equipped to deal with the threats posed by several sides in the division.

Powell will be delighted to keep a clean sheet and offer a late threat in attack and prove that Town are now a seasoned outfit at this level and one who can progress in 2015/2016.
