BLACK BULL took over top spot in Division I from Britannia Sports, who were on West Riding Cup duty, with a tremendous 6-5 victory over unpredictable Craven at Dryclough.

The home side led 1-0 and 2-1 but after Sam Haigh and Damian Sykes had levelled at 2-2, Bull went 4-2 up through Sykes and David Gill. Liam Brothers then made it 5-2 before Craven closed the gap to 5-4.

Gill added a second to make it 6-4 but right at the death, Craven reduced it to 6-5, with their goals coming from Sean Gant (2), Matt Kilner, James Firth and Darius Firth.

Pak Rangers rose to joint third alongside Woodfield Park and Athletico Monkey, who they beat 2-1.

Pak had the best of the first half and took a 1-0 lead with a strike from Rizwan Safdar.

In the second half Monkey were in the ascendancy and equalised through Sam Barraclough, who rifled a shot into the top corner.

Monkey’s keeper Scott Nolan then made some good saves but misjudged an effort from Safdar and as the ball entered the net a Rangers player fell on him.

He was taken to hospital for a check-up on possible neck injuries, but happily it was not serious, only bruising.

The game was held up for half an hour for the injury, and when it resumed Monkey could not regain their superiority and the game fell flat.

In Division II, GMB Meltham battled out at 3-3 draw with high-flying White Swan.

After hitting the bar and forcing several corners, they had to recover from 2-0 down to level through strikes from Jim Hamby and Gavin Brammah, and went on to lead 3-2 with a strike from Nathan Addy.

But with time quickly running out, Swan pushed players up front and were rewarded with a 25-yard strike from Chris Hughes, who completed a hat trick in the process.

Swan are now second and Clothiers Arms third after the latter’s 5-4 win over HD One at Holmfirth – but they had to do it the hard way.

They were 3-1 down at one stage but hit back with strikes from Carl Searby, Joe Mitchell, Nathan Holmes, Scott Taylor and Kyle Edwards.

Centre-back Mark Tilburn was Clothiers’ man-of-the-match.

Only one team from the League, Britannia Sports, made it through to the third round of the West Riding Trophy, with a fine 4-2 away win at Idle.

Alex Pearson netted twice and Josh Redshaw and Jonny Bottomley grabbed the others to take Sports through.

They now have another away match at Rosebud Inn, from Division I of the Leeds Sunday Alliance League.
