DIRECTOR Martin Byrne today quit the Town board.

And owner Ken Davy immediately praised his contribution "particularly last year in helping the club come out of administration".

Mr Davy said: "Martin really helped this club through its darkest hour and it is only because of business commitments that he has felt it necessary to tender his resignation which we have accepted with regret."

Byrne, who owns Martin Byrne Commercials, based at Elland, was not at yesterday's 4-0 win.

Davy added: "I thank him for his commitment in helping rescue Town and he'll still be welcome in our boardroom."

Mr Davy has no immediate plans to appoint another director. Other board members are Roger Armitage, Andrew Watson and Ralph Rimmer.
