GREG ABBOTT says Carlisle’s best form of defence against Huddersfield Town today will be attack.

The Brunton Park boss has pledged to fight fire with fire in what he describes as a “crackerjack” of a contest between the League I promotion rivals.

Abbott, whose sixth-placed side boast a 15-game unbeaten home record, says he has no special plans to deal with Jordan Rhodes, who broke fourth-placed Town’s post-War seasonal scoring record when collecting his 35th of the campaign in last week’s 1-0 home win over leaders Charlton.

“We just have to defend properly, work hard as a team and nullify the threat of the whole Huddersfield side,” said the former Bradford player ahead of a game which is expected to attract an 8,000-plus crowd (Town fans can pay at the gate).

“But we aim to cause them problems as well. The more we can keep the ball in their half, Rhodes becomes less of a threat.

“But if you spend too much time trying to close him down, they have got other top-drawer players who can spring up.”

Town will hope right-back Jack Hunt avoids a yellow card.

The defender has nine so far this season, and one more between now and the cut-off point of Sunday, April 8 (the day after Town host Sheffield Wednesday) would mean a two-match suspension.

Hunt has already served a one-match ban after reaching five cautions.
