Happy manager Mark Robins hailed Olly Norwood’s sensational strike and Alex Smithies’ saves as Town clinched a first win at Bolton in 45 years.

Norwood lashed home his second goal in as many games in the 71st minute to send Town 10th in the Championship with a 1-0 victory at the Reebok Stadium.

The side’s third successive win was seen by 1,365 Town fans, with suspended midfielder Adam Clayton among them.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon was also in a 15,452 crowd, increasing speculation that the Glasgow giants are keen on Town top scorer James Vaughan and Lennon also watched Town beat Burnley 2-1 on Saturday, but Robins insisted: “There’s no way on this planet we will be parting with James.”

On last night’s win, the boss said: “We played really well against Burnley, and we played really well in this one, but in a different way.

“We weren’t great in the first half, and we needed Alex to make some outstanding saves as we came under pressure. But we were better in the second half, and having scored a superb goal, we worked hard to see the game out.”

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman said: “Huddersfield had a solid defence, which I knew they would have, and they have scored a wonderful goal.”

Town midfielder Danny Ward will have treatment on the dead leg which forced him off during the first half, with Robins optimistic he will be available for Saturday’s trip to Ipswich.

The Suffolk side are eighth, on the same 26-point mark as Town, after their 3-1 home win over Blackburn.
