Meanwhile, Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has insisted that the club never considered sacking him despite a weekend of turmoil.
Steve Agnew took charge of the side for a 2-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic, with reports that Karanka's relationship with his squad had broken down.
However, the manager has now returned to first team duties and has called for fans to back the team on the pitch as they chase down promotion.

An announcement is expected imminently, with the veteran boss seen as an ideal candidate to provide some experienced support to Darren Wassall, who took over from Paul Clement last month.
Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi is looking for a new manager after parting company with Dougie Freedman but insists he won't rush into the decision.
However, he also says he would consider selling amid criticism of his tenure - interim boss Paul Williams, manager until the end of the season, is the eighth man to take charge of the first team since the Kuwaiti family took ownership in 2012.
"I don't want to sell and walk away," Al Hasawi told BBC East Midlands Today.
"But if it carries on in the same thing as this, maybe I might do."
He added: "If people are pushing and always negative, and there is no appreciation, why should I continue?"
Leeds United winger Jordan Botaka could be given another chance at Elland Road after manager Steve Evans admitted the club "have a player here".
The 22-year-old Congo international was signed under Uwe Rosler's time in the hotseat, but struggled for game time under Evans.
Now he appears to have regained favour with the end of the season fast approaching.
Said Evans: “We’ve looked at Jordan, who I was critical of before, and he’s suddenly producing performances on the training ground. They’re making me say ‘we have a player here’.”
Fulham youngster Emerson Hyndman is being protected from the Championship relegation scrap for his own good, claims manager Slavisa Jokanovic.
Awarded a first senior USA cap last September, the Cottagers have been sparing with giving him first team minutes as they fight to avoid the drop.
Jokanovic told GetWestLondon : “He’s 19-year-old; we assess him constantly, and I’m very sure he’s going to have a future.
“He has a great potential, but where we are right now…
“He needs more help and we’re in the position where the team can’t help him enough. We need to find a more comfortable situation for the team and for him.”
Preston North End have handed 20-year-old Alan Browne a new three-and-a-half-year deal.

Browne will now be at Deepdale until 2019.
Ipswich Town striker Luke Varney has likened Cardiff City's Stadium to a morgue.
The forward was a late sub at the weekend, when Cardiff beat the Tractor Boys 1-0 courtesy of Bruno Manga's strike.
He told the East Anglian Times : "It would be nice to have some atmosphere because the last two games at Bolton and Cardiff have been dead.
“It was like a morgue on each occasion. Bolton are in a difficult position on and off the pitch, but Cardiff also felt flat and they are pushing for the play-offs.
“It was a weird one because there were so few fans. People were saying it was because of the rugby, which I found a bit surprising."
