Former Huddersfield Town striker Joe Garner looks set to swap the Championship for the Scottish Premier League.

Preston have agreed a reported £1.5m deal for their forward with Rangers, who return to the top-flight this season after four years in the lower leagues of Scottish football.

The 28-year-old scored six goals for Preston last season, bagging his 100th in league football in a 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic.

Garner is due in Glasgow for a medical in the next couple of days and should be eligible for Rangers' third match of the season against Motherwell on Saturday.

Aston Villa's Joleon Lescott

Another player rumoured to be on his way to Rangers is Aston Villa outcast Joleon Lescott.

The ex-England international has been told he can leave Villa by manager Roberto Di Matteo after his performances and off-field antics left his relationship with claret and blue fans in tatters.

The BBC claim Mark Warburton travelled south to meet the 34-year-old and discuss a possible move to Glasgow.

Lescott may be joined by former Arsenal centre-half Philippe Senderos who is a free agent and currently training with the Ibrox club.

Tim Krul

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has admitted his club would be willing to listen to offer for Dutch keeper Tim Krul this transfer window.

The 28-year-old international has been out for 10 months with a knee injury, but is set to return to full training in the next couple of weeks.

Benitez said: "He has one year left on his contract, we have five keepers are the moment.

"He is coming back after his injury, he is training hard and he’s improving. If we have to decide, we know that he's a very good keeper.

"But we have Elliot in the same situation. We have Sels now, we have Darlow and we have Woodman.

"So we cannot keep five keepers for the whole season.

"If we can have a solution before; he is getting fitter, but it depends on if anyone is interested."
