Brighton boss Chris Hughton says keeping hold of his stars is more important than further additions.

He does want to sign a centre-back and a striker before transfer deadline day on August 31.

But Hughton is also anxious to keep hold of Anthony Knockaert, Dale Stephens and Lewis Dunk.

Centre-back Dunk is reportedly a target of West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland.

“It’s very important we keep this squad together and hopefully put ourselves in a position to challenge again,” said the boss.

Meanwhile Reading, who host Brighton on Saturday, are after Leicester City centre-back Liam Moore.

Huddersfield-born Cameron Jerome says he would welcome the arrival of a rival striker at second-placed Norwich City.

The Canaries are among the string of clubs said to be tracking Huddersfield Town star Nahki Wells.

Jerome said: “I am fully aware the club are trying to bring a player or two.

“It can only benefit the squad in the long run and me on a personal level to make sure I raise my game.

“We have lost a couple of bodies this summer who haven’t been replaced so far.”

Norwich, who go to Ipswich Town for the big East Anglian derby on Sunday, are also being linked with France Under 19 international defender Jerome Onguene, who plays for Sochaux.

Sheffield Wednesday, at home to Leeds United on Saturday lunchtime, have signed defender Vincent Sasso on a one-year deal following his release by Portuguese club Braga.

Sasso spent the whole of last season on loan at the Owls, making 19 appearances.

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is believed to have his sights set on Utrecht striker Sebastian Haller.

The Magpies are said to be battling Everton, Sporting Lisbon and Monaco for the £10m-rated man.

France Under 21 international Haller scored 24 goals in 40 games last season.

Newcastle have spent £43.5m so far on Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Mo Diame, Jesus Gamez, Matz Sels, Ciaran Clark and Grant Hanley.

Derby County are claimed to be closing in on Manchester United forward James Wilson.

It’s been suggested the 20-year-old will soon complete a season-long loan.

Asked if he will add to his squad, Rams boss Nigel Pearson responded: “It is probable but I cannot say it is definite.”

Brentford want 18-year-old Arsenal winger Chris Willock on loan.

Gunners players Wojciech Szczesny, Jan Toral and Chuba Akpom have all had spells at the Bees in recent years.
