Huddersfield Town travel to Charlton Athletic this weekend looking to extend their unbeaten away run to three league games as manager Chris Powell prepares for his first return to The Valley.

The Terriers boss departed the Addicks in acrimonious circumstances after the arrival of new Belgian owner Roland Duchatelet but is sure to receive a warm welcome from the Charlton fans on his first reunion since exiting.

The reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw prior to Powell's arrival, but Town have an impressive recent history in this fixture having won six of their last 14 encounters and losing just four of those.

Here are the three battles which could decide the meeting between the two teams as Town look to continue their fine recent form and retain their top-half status after moving into 12th with the 3-0 midweek win over Reading.

Tal Ben Haim v Ishmael Miller

Tal Ben Haim v Ishmael Miller

No player in the Charlton Athletic ranks has figured more regularly than the Israeli, who boasts a wealth of pedigree at Premier League level.

He may not be the quickest but, as he showed when the two sides met earlier on this season, he has good positional sense and he will be required aerially too, to deal with the threat posed by Town's new man of the moment.

Miller bullied the Reading defenders into submission during the 3-0 victory with some great hold-up play and he won a number of balls both on and off the ground to give the Terriers a focal point.

He linked up well with both strike partners as Nahki Wells' shoulder injury meant James Vaughan was handed a second-half runout and he should expect to get the nod once more at the Valley after an assured showing.

There were tangible question marks about Town's move for a striker with something of a bad-boy reputation and after a fairly ordinary stint at Blackpool, but he will relish his chances here, despite his opponent's vast experience.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson v Jack Robinson

Arguably the hosts' star attraction, having already struck six times from midfield this season and his form has really picked up of late, helping the Addicks to crucial back-to-back wins over Brentford and Wigan Athletic respectively.

A third of his overall season tally of goals has arrived in the last five games and he drew plenty of praise for his roles in those two victories, as he notched against the Bees with a stunning left-foot strike before unselfishly teeing up new signing Chris Eagles for a debut goal at the Latics.

He is stationed on the right but is very much left-footed and will look to come in off the flank and link the play, so Robinson will require assistance from the likes of Jonathan Hogg down Town's left.

If Chris Powell opts for a similar setup to midweek, Robinson will once more be tasked with providing Town's attacking threat down that flank but he will be wary against a right-sided duo of Gudmundsson and Chris Solly, who have created five goals between them this season.

But the ever-improving QPR loanee snuffed out the threat of Bournemouth's right-sided combination of Adam Smith and Matt Ritchie on the road recently and will hope to find spaces in attack such as the one for his assist in that 1-1 draw on the South coast.

Igor Vetokele v Mark Hudson

Gudmundsson may be the star with his spectacular long-range strikes and reliable set-piece delivery, but Vetokele is without doubt the Addicks' most important player having scored the most goals and set up the highest amount this season.

And Town fans have already had a taste first-hand of how dangerous he can be, with his last-minute leveller back in August a difficult pill to swallow.

Vetokele had already been involved in a tangle which saw Murray Wallace dismissed - a red card which was later rescinded - and he was the only member of the visiting side to turn up as Town bossed the second half but failed to add to Wells' opener.

Hudson, formerly of Charlton, was not a Town player at the time of the last meeting between the two sides but his presence here will be crucial, particularly with Chris Powell's side buoyed by successive clean sheets ahead of his return to The Valley.

Vetokele came face-to-face with an entirely left-footed central defensive pairing in Wallace and Joel Lynch but, with the latter out and Hudson providing the balance and leadership lacking from the previous encounter, the Terriers will hope they are better-equipped to extend their run of clean sheets.
