Sean Scannell reflected on his key creative role in Huddersfield Town’s 4-2 home win over Blackpool and said: “I’m really glad I stayed.”

The 24-year-old winger, who is looking forward to tackling Brighton back at the John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow night, was wanted by Championship rivals Millwall during the last transfer window.

But Chris Powell, then manager in waiting, intervened in order to keep the former Crystal Palace man up North.

Scannell has responded by producing his most consistent run of form since being signed in 2012.

He had a hand in each of Town’s three goals in the opening 16 minutes against Blackpool, who pulled two back by the break.

And he hit the post in the 90th minute, admitting: “I like assists, but I’d like to score the odd goal as well!”

Scannell said of Powell, whose side are up to 17th in the table: “It was a compliment he wanted to keep me here.

“He believes in me and helps me on the training ground, and I am really happy playing for him.

“I’m really happy with my game at the moment as well.

“I want to run at opponents every time I get the ball.

“Everyone is buzzing under the manager, not just me.

“He handles the squad really well and we are all happy.

“We’ve had three wins in our last four games and a really good draw at Blackburn.

“But we know we have to maintain this momentum, and we’re all looking forward to the Brighton game.”
