Chris Powell has urged his Huddersfield Town players to make it a great week with a home win over Derby County.

It’s the third time this season Powell’s side have had three Championship games in eight days.

Having drawn 0-0 at Ipswich Town last Saturday, they beat MK Dons 2-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday.

And victory over Paul Clement’s Rams, who are unbeaten in seven, would give them their best points return yet after three and six.

“These three-game weeks can be pretty pivotal,” said Powell, whose side have won three and lost only one of their last six games.

“You’ve got nine points available in eight days.

“While nine is fantastic, you always want at least five, and if you can get seven, then great.”

Powell is encouraged by his side’s recent run.

And he knows a positive performance against Derby will be a plus ahead of away games at Burnley (October 31) and Reading (November 3).

“We have played 12 league games,” added the boss, a former Derby player.

“The first six were not to my liking, but there were factors that contributed to the results, the transfers of Alex Smithies to QPR and Jacob Butterfield to Derby and all that surrounded those deals.

“I feel like we have settled down now, the supporters as well.

“One defeat in six isn’t a bad place to be, but we have to keep this form going.

“Our next three games are against sides who are all up there and going for it.

“But we are competing in the Championship on our own merits and we welcome the challenge.”
