FOREST flier Kris Commons is hoping to get the nod from boss Colin Calderwood to get stuck into Town from the start of tonight’s contest.

The 24-year-old midfielder has had to put up with a place on the bench for his side’s last three League I games.

They have all produced Nottingham victories, 2-0 at Port Vale, 4-0 at home to Gillingham and 3-0 at Yeovil.

But it took the introduction of Commons to clinch all three points from Saturday’s showdown in Somerset.

With his side leading through Luke Chambers’ 57th-minute header, Commons came on to produce a quality cameo performance capped with the final goal on 84 minutes after Junior Agogo had struck on 79.

Now Calderwood, whose side are eighth, a place above Town but on the same 12-points mark having played a game less, must decide whether to bring Commons back into the XI.

Doing so would probably mean reverting to 4-4-2 from 4-3-3, with striker Nathan Tyson, who has been playing alongside Agogo and Grant Holt, the man to miss out.

Commons, who was with Stoke at the same time as Town’s on-loan Bristol City defender Richard Keogh, admitted: “I deserved to be dumped on the bench.

“It’s been weird finding myself on the bench. The manager and I had words, but the coaching staff also told me I hadn’t been doing the business in the early games.”

Forest, beaten by Yeovil in last season’s play-off semi-finals, made a sluggish start to the season, drawing three of their first four league games and losing the other, 2-1 at home to Leeds.

But things came good at Vale Park, and after victory at Yeovil, Calderwood said: “Yeovil never concede three goals in a game so this was something special – a result that will make others in the division sit up and take note.

“There is still room for improvement but we defended well and could have scored another one or two near the end.”

Forest drew 1-1 at the Galpharm last season, later mauling Town 5-1 at the City Ground, when Agogo netted twice in what proved to be Peter Jackson’s last game at the helm.
