CRICKETERS ARMS went goal crazy when they thrashed struggling White Horse 11-2.

And the Honley-based outfit took full advantage of leaders Helion’s match being postponed due to the weather, to move within six points of them and have two games in hand.

Jackie Walker was in red-hot form, chipping in with four goals, while Paul Wood netted a hat trick, and there was a brace from Richard Hirst, while further goals from Nathan Tayo and Charlie Allen, completed the scoring.

Jamie Pearson gave White Horse something to cheer when he was on target twice.

In another high-scoring game at Royds Hall, Wellington fought back from a 6-4 deficit to edge out Golcar-based Rose and Crown 7-6.

Wellington trailed by two goals with 10 minutes to go but goals by Anthony Haigh (4), James Keen, Eddy Hamlet and Jamie Machon earned the visitors victory.

On target for the Rose was Darren Blower with a hat trick supported with a brace for Ben Senior and a goal for Trevor Wood.

It will be Division I’s second and third placed teams who will battle it out for the Rollinson Cup tomorrow, at Laund Hill, YMCA (11.00).

Heywood Irish Centre, who trail leaders GNG Sikh Temple by nine points (but have four games in hand), take on third-placed Team Forward in the popular league competition.

Irish will start as favourites after having had the better of this season’s head-to-head meetings in the league following a 2-2 draw and a 3-0 win.

Both teams had a first-round bye but then, en route to the final, Irish beat White Horse 13-2, Wellington 7-1 and Cricketers Arms 3-0 after extra-time to reach the final.

Team Forward beat Rose and Crown 13-1 in the second round before edging past previous back-to-back Cup winners Walkers Arms 4-3 after extra-time and they booked a place in the final after a 1-0 win against Marsh Lib.

Following the abandoned match between Heywood Irish Centre and GNG Sikh Temple, on March 30, Sunday League fixture secretary Alan Carter said: “The management committee have now met to discuss this match and have decided that in view of the referee’s report, GNG Sikh Temple have been found responsible for the abandonment.

“According to our ruling, the points have been awarded to Heywood Irish Centre and GNG Sikh Temple have been fined accordingly.”
