David Wagner has explained why the beard will win every time while he’s Huddersfield Town coach.

The 44-year-old German caused a stir among Town fans by appearing clean shaven for the first time as his team won 2-0 at Nottingham Forest.

His whiskers were back, however, for the 1-0 home victory against Wolves, and Wagner revealed they will stay for MK Dons and beyond.

“First of all, it was an accident that I had to shave off my beard (before the Forest match),” he explained

“Anybody who has ever shaved a beard will know it can happen.

“When I shaved it was too short on one side and too long on the other, so I had to react.

“I always say to my players that if you make a mistake you have to find the right solution and show the right reaction, and my reaction was to shave off the beard.”

While fans noticed it straight away at the City Ground, so did his wife Judith!

“It wasn’t my best decision since I arrived,” joked the Town boss.

“My wife wasn’t very happy with what she saw, so I started growing it back straight away.

“Only if we have another four losses in a row will I shave it off again – so hopefully I will never have to shave it off again!”
