David Wagner watched Huddersfield Town kick-off their pre-season friendly schedule with a 1-0 win at Guiseley and said: “It was a good first step.”

The head coach used 23 different players, with eight new faces on show, in a match settled by Sean Scannell’s shot just before the break.

Scannell had earlier hit a post while both Nahki Wells and Kyle Dempsey shot against the bar.

“I am happy with the performance and happy that all the players came through our first match without any problems,” said Wagner.

“Perhaps my only moan is that we didn’t score more goals, because we could have won by a much bigger margin.

“But we are only six days into our work and we have had 15 training sessions as well as this match.

“We wanted to play at a high tempo and build up more fitness and this was achieved.

“There was a little bit of harmony missing - totally normal at this stage - but we also had some good moments.

“We wanted a good test from Guiseley and we got one, and this was a good first step.”
