David Wagner has quite a check list when it comes to new signings.

So it’s good to know Huddersfield Town’s ambitious head coach is optimistic he can bring in the right players this summer.

The German is already working with Rajiv van La Parra, the winger who has joined on loan from Wolves ahead of a £750,000 summer transfer, and put in place a deal to land his compatriot and left-back Chris Löwe on a free from Kaiserslautern in July.

He is also being linked with German centre-back Michael Hefele, of Dynamo Dresden.

“First of all we have to decide which positions are most important, then the player has to have the right quality,” explained Wagner.

“Then it’s important the player is desperate to come to Huddersfield and, if he is from elsewhere, to England.

“Then it’s important the player has a good age, it’s important he speaks our language and it’s good I’d he maybe had a part of his career where he was successful, so has confidence and knows how to be in a successful environment.

“Then it would be great if they can be leaders on the pitch and in the dressing room.”

Wagner then added: “I can say that at the moment I have a pretty good feeling for our negotiations with potential signings.

“I think we will bring in players in the summer window who will help us to make the next step.”
