EX-TOWN striker Jon Stead described his debut winner for Blackburn as "a dream come true".
The 20-year-old scored the sole goal against Middlesbrough after being handed a start alongside Paul Gallagher at the expense of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke.
The news was highlighted on the McAlpine scoreboard while Town were losing 2-0 at home to Darlington in their first match since Stead's £1.25m move to Ewood Park.
"I had a dream about coming on as a sub and scoring, but to start the game and get the winner is a dream come true," said Stead, who was disappointed to hear of Town's defeat.
"All the players have helped me to settle in. They've all been very open with me and I don't think it's about chasing places.
"I think they see a young player who needs developing and could be a big asset for the club."
Stead now hopes to keep his place and help Rovers climb from 14th, six points above the drop zone.
Following Saturday's fine 10-yard finish, he seems certain to lead the line at Ewood on Wednesday when Newcastle are the visitors.
"I wouldn't have signed if I thought I was going to be sat in the Reserves for a couple of years," he added.
"That wouldn't help my development and when I get the chance, I'm just aiming to do my very best.
"I'm sure the manager has confidence in me and I've got to have confidence in myself."
