Joel Lynch wants to embellish his new Huddersfiel;d Town contract by achieving a couple of massive targets this season.

Firstly, the 26-year-old defender – who has recovered from groin surgery in February – is determined to cement a starting line-up place under Mark Robins and help Town push right up the Championship table.

Then the former Brighton and Nottingham Forest favourite, who has just penned a new two-year deal to keep him at the John Smith’s until 2017, is eager to push for a recall to the Wales international side.

Lynch, who captained Town in the 4-1 win at Guiseley on Monday, accepts he has a battle on his hands to meet those expectations as he prepares for Town’s trip to Scunthorpe on Saturday.

“Pre-season has gone well for me and all the lads are working hard,” said Lynch, at 6ft 1in one of Town’s power players.

“Having signed my new deal I obviously want to play as many games as I can and I want to be in the starting line-up from Day One – that’s what I’m working towards.

“I’m hoping with the experience we’ve had over the last couple of seasons in the Championship that we are going to do much better this time, especially with some of the young lads pushing well for places, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a couple more new faces added to the squad to help us along.”

Lynch is eager to avoid another tense chapter in the bottom half of the standings and added: “We need to make a good start and then make life easier for ourselves by maintaining our form.

“At the moment all we can do is build on the excellent trip to Portugal and work hard towards that first match against Bournemouth,

“Personally, I’m feeling good and I just want to play. I want to help us have a good season in the Championship and I definitely want to push to get back in the Wales squad.

“That will only come with matches for the club. I had surgery last year which was a bit of a blow, but if I can stay fit this time I want to press for a place in the Wales squad, no doubt about it.”
