Spanish club Deportivo de La Coruna have announced they are to play a friendly against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The game, said to be on Wednesday, July 29, has yet to be confirmed by the Championship club, whose other pre-season matches are all away.

Deportivo, coached by their former midfielder and Spanish international Víctor Sanchez, finished 16th in La Liga last season.

Sanchez, who also played for Real Madrid, replaced sacked Victor Fernandez in April.

Deportivo won the title in 2000 and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2004, with Sanchez involved as a player.

But in more recent times, they have but have since been beset by financial problems and were relegated in 2011 and 2013.

They are set to sign Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto on loan.

Town have previously played hosts to Spanish sides Athletic Bilbao (2002), Real Sociedad (2006), Barcelona B (2012) and Real Betis (2013).
