David Wagner reflected on the 1-0 defeat at Reading which cost Huddersfield Town the Championship leadership and said: "I'm disappointed by the result but very proud of our performance."

Having had Rajiv van La Parra sent off after two yellow card offences on 25 minutes (first a foul, then dissent) Town went behind to a Roy Beerens strike late in the first half.

But the visitors had a real go at Reading in the second period, and might well have forced a point.

"This was a defeat I can totally accept because my players tried everything," said head coach Wagner, whose side have been replaced by Norwich City at the top of the table.

"At the end, we possibly deserved more than one point, because we created good opportunities with only 10 men. I am very proud about how the players reacted after the red card for Rajiv."

Wagner says van La Parra must learn lessons from his sending off, which means he will be suspended for Tuesday's home clash with Rotherham United, as will defenders Mark Hudson and Chris Lowe after they both received fifth cautions of the campaign.

Wagner added: "For the red card Rajiv must take 100% of the responsibility. What he did (regarding his dissent) was unacceptable.

Mistakes happen, this was a big one and he knows this."

Skipper Hudson revealed that van La Parra had made a dressing-room apology to his teammates.
