Huddersfield Town have completed the season-long loan signing of exciting Chelsea forward Kasey Palmer.

Fresh from helping England Under 21s win the Toulon Tournament, he becomes David Wagner’s 12th senior recruit of the summer.

And the boss says he is now happy with the make-up of his squad ahead of a Championship campaign which starts in three weeks.

Like Liverpool and Wales keeper Danny Ward, who has also joined Town on loan, Palmer was a reported target of Celtic, amongst other clubs.

So Chelsea’s decision to send the 19-year-old South Londoner to West Yorkshire is a feather in the cap of the John Smith’s Stadium club.

Former Charlton Athletic player Palmer shone in the Premier League side’s thriving Under 21 set-up last season.

Now Chelsea, who had him on the bench for the first-team clashes with Swansea City and Liverpool towards the end of last season, want him to push on with the help of Championship football.

At Town, he will wear No45 and compete with fellow new signings Jack Payne (from Southend United) and Rajiv van La Parra (Wolves), Harry Bunn, Joe Lolley and Sean Scannell for a forwards berth.

As well as Palmer, Payne, Van La Parra and Ward, Town’s other new signings are keeper Joel Coleman, defenders Michael Hefele, Chris Lowe, Christopher Schindler and Jon Gorenc Stankovic, midfielders Aaron Mooy and Ivan Paurevic and striker Elias Kachunga.

The arrival of Palmer could signal the end of Wagner’s signings spree, the boss now having options in every position.

The new boy is unlikely to feature in Saturday’s friendly at Oldham Athletic, but could make his bow when Liverpool visit the John Smith's Stadium next Wednesday.

Head coach Wagner said: “I believe Kasey is one of the best young English talents and I think our supporters will enjoy watching him.

“He is a very skilful player with good football intelligence and we now have the time to work hard with him in training to help him understand our identity on the pitch.

"He is hungry to make the next step in his career and he has shown that by his willingness to leave his comfort zone and come to a new club and a new town.

“As I said about Danny Ward recently, I believe we can help Kasey make that next step and send him back to Chelsea a better player once the season is over.

"I would like to thank everyone at Chelsea for allowing Kasey to come to us.

"This was the last position open, another No10 to provide competition for Jack Payne.

"Unless anything untoward happens, our business is done."
