FORMER Town favourite Marcus Stewart chalked up his 200th career goal.

But it couldn't help Sunderland to victory in the First Division meeting with Millwall at The New Den.

Stewart, who scored 68 times in 160 appearances for Town before his controversial sale to then First Division promotion rivals Ipswich in January 2000, put the Wearsiders in front after 30 minutes.

But ex-Sunderland man Danny Dichio levelled nine minutes later, then hit the winner on 62 minutes.

The result left Sunderland fourth, six points behind leaders Norwich, who drew 4-4 at Rotherham thanks to a late leveller by Damien Francis.

Second-placed West Brom drew 1-1 at Burnley with an equaliser by former Guiseley and Halifax striker Geoff Horsfield. Robbie Blake had put the Clarets ahead.

Bradford remained second- bottom, five points adrift of safety, after a 1-0 home defeat by Cardiff, for whom Richard Langley netted in the 72nd minute.

Langley's old club, QPR, kept on the heels of Second Division leaders Plymouth with a 2-1 home win over Brighton during which Town old boy Kevin Gallen grabbed his 12th goal of the season.

Plymouth beat Rushden 3-0 at Home Park.

Port Vale, bossed by ex-Town manager Brian Horton, are in fourth after a 5-1 home drubbing of Grimsby. Ex-McAlpine defender Sam Collins got one of the goals.

Sixteenth-placed Sheffield Wedneday's woes continued with a 1-0 defeat at Oldham.
