INJURED duo Tony Carss and Andy Holdsworth will be put firmly through their paces in the next 48 hours before being considered for the Galpharm clash with Oldham on Saturday.

Wing-back Holdsworth and midfielder Carss - a former Oldham player - each had hernia surgery last month.

Both are progressing well and took part in a short training session with the substitutes at Prenton Park last night following Town's 3-0 defeat by Tranmere.

"We've got Tony and Andy back in training, but whether Saturday is too early to throw them back into first-team action we'll have to wait and see," said manager Peter Jackson.

"Andy Booth and Junior Mendes are both doing a bit of jogging but are probably still a couple of weeks away, while we are hoping Rob Edwards can get on the training ground towards the back end of this week."

Midfielder Danny Schofield returned after illness to start at Prenton Park, while Nathan Clarke played with a blackened right eye after taking a blow against Blackpool
