FORMER Town manager Mick Wadsworth suffered early misery at the African Nations Cup.

His DR Congo side were beaten 2-1 by Guinea in Group A in the first shock of the big Tunisian event.

Alain Masudi's volley gave DR Congo a half-time lead, before Titi Camara's low drive and Pascal Feindouno's header sent the Guinea fans into raptures.

Guinea also came close on several other occasions, with Feindouno's delicate chip the best effort.

"We got stretched and ragged and all the things we worked on disappeared in those last 30 minutes," said Wadsworth, whose side face hosts Tunisia on Wednesday.

Algeria battled to a 1-1 draw against defending champions Cameroon in their opening Group C clash.

Patrick Mboma proved he was worth his late call-up, heading Cameroon in front before the break.

But Brahim Zafour equalised early in the second half when he fired home a low shot from a poor clearance.
