West Brom were knocked out of the League Cup by last year's League Two champions Northampton Town on penalties, after 120 minutes couldn't separate the sides.

The Cobblers beat the Baggies 4-3 in the shootout following a 2-2 draw after extra time.

Northampton go on to play Manchester United at Sixfields Stadium in the next round of the competition and will be looking to add to their 26-game unbeaten run in the build-up, with five league matches separating the cup fixtures.

Watford were dumped out of the league cup unceremoniously by Gillingham, who notched their first win against top-flight opposition since 2006.

The Gills took the tie to extra time thanks to Mark Byrne's stunning equaliser and Bradley Dack squeezed home the winner in the 102nd minute.

Accrington were rewarded for their efforts by a trip to the London Stadium to visit West Ham United.

Fulham were the final team to knock Premier League opposition out of the cup, beating newly-promoted Middlesbrough 2-1 at Craven Cottage in extra time.
