TOWN will have 21 academy scholars next season after naming a first-year intake of eight.

They include Leeds-based striker Jimmy Spencer, who has scored five goals in 12 starts and five substitute appearances for the Under 18s in the FA Premier Academy League this season.

Goalkeeper Damian Eastman, who comes from Liverpool and has had past links with Tranmere Rovers, has played twice for the Under 18s.

And there have been two appearances from the bench for left winger Aiden Chipendale (from Bradford) and one apiece for midfielder Ryan Watson (Bradford) and right winger Josh McClean (Leeds).

The other three new scholars are Huddersfield pair Stephen Powell, a right-back, and Adam Bower, a centre-back, and midfielder Chris Atkinson, from Halifax.

The second-year scholars are Danny Barlow (striker), Stephen Brook (left-back), Lewis Collinson (midfield), Luke Durham (right wing), Leigh Franks (defender) Spencer Harris (centre- back), Dave Heagney (striker), Jack Hunt (right-back), Lewis Nightingale (midfield), Chris Pert (striker), David Pickering (defender), Liam Ridehalgh (left-back) and Luke Williams (midfield).
