TOWN Ladies have sights firmly set on reaching the semi-finals of the West Riding County Cup.

A waterlogged pitch left them kicking their heels last weekend, but this coming Sunday they visit Guiseley Ladies in the quarter-finals of the Cup with a firm focus on progressing (1.00).

The Reserves are also in league cup quarter-final action this Sunday against Silsden at Grange Moor (1.00).

Town’s Under 15s hailed a solid defensive performance as they won 4-0 at Hoyland Town, Katie Lockwood grabbing a hat trick.

Lockwood opened the scoring after five minutes when she followed up to score after an initial save.

After a close effort by Laura Niemantis, Lockwood extended the lead after good midfield play from Ella Gill and Sian Lewis, and she completed her hat trick just before the break.

Town utilised all of their squad and sent on five substitutes to start the second half.

Hoyland had more possession but Emily Morris and Niamh O’Dea were superb in defence, while Amelia Samuels played well in goal.

For Town, Gill was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions but they finally sealed the victory when Lockwood set up Lauren Buckley for a crisp shot under the keeper.

Gill was named Player of the Match for her strong midfield display and the Under 15s meet the same opposition again on Saturday at Grange moor (10.30).

The Under 18s lost 3-2 at Handsworth Juniors in the semi-finals of their league cup, having switched away because Grange Moor wasn’t fit.

Handsworth took the lead in the 29th minute and extended it on 37.

Town showed great spirit and reduced the arrears in the 44th minute when Alice Linsell latched onto a Nicole Pachniuk pass to round the goalkeeper and slot home.

The second half was a close contest with Town unable to produce an equaliser before Handsworth went 3-1 ahead on 58 minutes.

Town battled to the end and were rewarded when Hannah Leech shot home from the edge of the area with two minutes remaining.

On Saturday the Under 18s are at home (Grange Moor) to Sheffield United Community Reds (10.30).

Town Under 13s beat Sprotbrough & Cusworth 2-1 with an Olivia Bennett double to reach their league cup final.

It was the fourth meeting between the two sides this season and Town have found them all tough.

Sprotbrough defended in numbers and on a muddy pitch Town never really got going in the first half, creating just two decent chances – an Ella Harris shot which was well saved and an Amy Broomhead shot just wide.

After a few strong words at half time, Town started the second half in better mood and Rose Priestley soon caused the excellent Sprotbrough keeper Grace Dixon to pull off another good save, low to her left.

Town eventually went ahead on 58 minutes following a goalmouth scramble when Bennett calmly placed the ball home from the left side of the area.

Seven minutes later, player of the match Bennett repeated the trick with a similar finish.

Sprotbrough were not done and came back at Town via their speedy strikers, but only two minutes were left when they scored – Town keeper Isobel Pare saving but Sprotbrough’s Charlie Eley reacting quickly to prod home.

The Under 13s have no game this weekend.
