Emyr Huws has the talent to make an impact on the international stage, never mind in the Championship.

That’s the view of several seasoned Welsh observers of Huddersfield Town’s new loan recruit from Wigan Athletic.

The Llanelli-born midfielder has agreed a season-long stay, although Wigan have a January recall option.

Huws will wear Town’s No16 shirt and is set to make his debut after the forthcoming international break.

He is back in training after a pre-season injury, but will not be considered for the home Championship clash with Queens Park Rangers.

Huws, who spent time in Swansea City’s youth system before heading North to Manchester City, already has four Wales caps.

Proving himself while at the John Smith’s Stadium will only further the 21-year-old’s international prospects – and transfer value to Wigan.

With the 2016 European Championships on the horizon for Chris Coleman’s national side, Huws has every incentive to impress.

Having been hampered by ankle problems, he’ll be hungry for action after swapping the blue and white stripes of Wigan for those of Town.

The Latics paid Manchester City £3m for his signature last September after he impressed during a loan spell, his third after stints at Northampton Town and Birmingham City.

Huws played 16 times for Wigan before his season-ending injury, and suffered a further ankle problem during the build-up to the current campaign.

Wigan, of course, have been relegated to League I and are therefore having to readjust financially.

Manager Gary Caldwell, who has taken Town striker Jordy Hiwula on loan, has said Huws was unhappy at the prospect of playing in the third tier.

That means he was made available for loan, with a number of Championship clubs, including Burnley and Cardiff City, also said to be interested.

Chris Powell made an astute loan signing from Wigan last season in the shape of seasoned striker Grant Holt.

Huws still has plenty to prove, and hopefully he’ll do it while in Huddersfield.
