The times they are a changing – particularly down Charlton Athletic way.

Of the 18 players in the squad named by Guy Luzon for Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Championship leaders Derby County, just five were around when Chris Powell was sacked just short of 12 months ago.

And former Israel Under 21 chief Luzon is the third man to lead the side since billionaire Belgian owner Roland Duchatelet dispensed with the services of the man who was at the helm when he completed his takeover.

But while so many of the faces inside the club are different, the fans remain the same.

Charlton’s £5 entry offer means there will be more of them than usual, with 25,000 expected to turn out for a fixture which last season attracted 12,974.

And there’s no doubt Town boss Powell will be given a great reception when he makes his first return to The Valley.

After all, he had three separate spells as a player there, helping Charlton win promotion to the Premier League in 2000.

And after a slide from the top flight to League I in three seasons, he managed the Addicks to the League I title in 2012, when Town went up via the play-offs.

There have been no shortage of meetings between these two in recent years.

They have clashed in league football for six successive seasons.

And there have been three cup-ties in the last two campaigns.

The Powell factor will give added interest to what, in terms of points if not positions, is a bit of a mid-table dust-up.

While Town are 12th with 42 points from 33 games, Charlton are four places and three points behind.

Luzon’s side might have lost at Derby, but they won both their previous two games by 3-0 margins, at home to Brentford and away to Wigan Athletic, when Powell was in the crowd.

Powell’s team head South buoyed by a comprehensive 3-0 home win over Reading and having taken seven points from the last nine available away from the John Smith’s Stadium, winning at both Wigan and down the road from Charlton at Millwall.

It’s the first of two capital contests, with Brentford the destination on Tuesday.

And having won at Millwall last month, a South London double would be a real tonic.
