Murray Wallace is the type of hungry young footballer Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell loves to work with.

The 21-year-old defender put pen to paper on a new contract to 2017 earlier today and Town have the option of another year.

It’s a significant commitment from the club and Powell explained why he was keen to get the Scot’s future sorted.

“I like Murray,” said Powell. “I knew about him before I came to the club, but to see him at close quarters has been terrific.

“He has a very good attitude, he wants to learn and do well and he is left footed, which is quite rare in a centre-back, so it gives us balance.

“Mark Hudson and Joel Lynch have got the shirts at the moment but Murray’s chance will come.

“For me, the new deal was a no-brainer because you want to keep a good core to your squad, with young players who want to do well, and Murray fits that bill.”
