AFTER last reporting on the second loss of the season to Bradford, an invitation to detail Town's end-of-season run-in didn't overly inspire.

A 100% record in the previous two games removed fears of being dragged into the relegation battle. However, as the majority of the 17,300 crowd will agree, with Town you never quite know.

After starting the game in the same fashion which has threatened many of their loftier League I rivals, Town oozed ability and control throughout.

Regular fans have seen Town frequently show signs of being capable of challenging the best the league has to offer with marginal improvements and, in recent weeks, this has been illustrated no better than through the contribution of Ahmed.

After opening his league account in spectacular style against Oldham, Ahmed put in another massive performance against Wednesday, driving the ball forward from midfield, winning possession and delivering terrific set pieces.

Booth displayed the kind of threat he's posed all season, as he consistently won the ball against the two Wednesday defenders who shadowed him throughout. This opened up opportunities for Brandon, Abbott and Mendes and even prior to the sending-off, Town fully controlled the game. They started the brighter and were rarely threatened by the visitors, as attacks continually rained down on Paul Gallagher's goal.

Jon Worthington's opener seemed to be the start of things to come, as he drove the ball home after only seven minutes. It wasn't to be, but to be fair, it didn't need to be.

Wednesday were very poor, and rarely showed anything which suggested they had an outside chance of promotion.

Town, meanwhile showed discipline, ability and also a togetherness which far outweighed anything South Yorkshire had to offer.

The last two seasons have far exceeded realistic expectations, and it seems clear that this team has exciting times ahead.
