FC Halifax travel to Mossley tomorrow looking to progress after their impressive 1-0 win over League side Notts County at The Shay.

The Shaymen got back to winning ways in pre-season, putting the disappointment of their 2-1 home defeat by Preston North End in midweek behind them.

Trialist Jamie Jackson did his chances of earning a contract no harm as he struck the winner over Notts County..

However, manager Neil Aspin felt as a spectacle the game wasn’t great but with the heat having an affect on the fixture.

The referee called for drinks break at the midway point in both the first and second half, but Aspin felt it had been another good run out and ultimately a test for his side to negotiate and negotiate they did.

“I think the conditions with the heat and the pitch was like playing on Velcro,” said Aspin.

“I think it affected the game, so I don’t think it was the greatest game but in terms of getting through a 90 minutes, the players fitness wise, I think it was good in that respect.

“However, as a spectacle I didn’t really enjoy watching it.”

During the first half goalkeeper Matty Glennon pulled off a fantastic reflex save to deny Notts County an early lead, getting fingertips to a goal bound shot to knock onto the woodwork and keep the score at 0-0.

“It was a fantastic save, all goalkeepers, like any player on the park, he’s wants to feel sharp for the season,” added Aspin.

“It was a good reflex save and kept us in the game at that stage.”

Jackson, who came on as a sub against Preston in midweek, then announced himself to the Shay followers with a match-winning goal right out of the top drawer.
