Not even a goal from former Shaymen Gareth Seddon could prevent FC Halifax Town from maintaining their unbeaten home record with a 2-1 win in the Conference Premier.

Man of the match Marc Roberts bagged the Shaymen’s winner after Lee Gregory had given them the lead.

Seddon’s strike cancelled out Gregory’s opener, bundled home from a Simon Ainge nod down, as the Shaymen claimed their fifth home triumph of the campaign.

And it was Gregory’s attempt on goal that brought the winner as the resulting corner was met by a thumping Roberts header to give Neil Aspin’s troops the points.

“It’s great to win for all the lads, we needed a win after a difficult result at Kidderminster,” said Town midfielder Matt Pearson said of the importance of the win, which has taken the Shaymen up to ninth.

“All the lads have dug deep, we started slowly but we grew into the game and we are really pleased and really buzzing about the result.

“We needed that, if we had lost it would have dragged us towards the bottom.

“We need to be in that mix towards the top of the table because that’s where we want to be.”
