Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell spoke to the media this afternoon at the club's PPG Canalside training complex ahead of his side's clash with Blackpool this weekend as the Championship gets back underway.

Town come into the game off a three-match unbeaten run which yielded seven points after wins against Millwall and Wolves and a 0-0 draw at Blackburn Rovers .

The Terriers have failed to beat this weekend's opponents in their last three meetings, and with Jose Riga's side sure to be buoyed by their 1-0 win over Cardiff City before the international break, this represents a difficult test for Powell and his side .

But what were the main talking points from what Powell had to say?

Here are our key five as we pick the bones from the press conference.

Complacency will not creep in

As thrilled as Powell will have been to have got the first wins of his managerial reign and another clean sheet under his belt, it hardly showed when he addressed the media.

Instead, he shifted focus to the present and the task that faces him and his charges this weekend in a home game against Blackpool - a chance for Town to move further away from the bottom three.

Powell has previously mentioned how the oscillating nature of the Championship could see his side be on the receiving end of a barren run in a three-match week, just as it can favour the Terriers.

And that was the attitude Powell adopted ahead of welcoming Blackpool to the John Smith's Stadium, an emphasis on the here and now and not allowing past events to influence future performances.

Two wins and a draw altered the landscape of Town's season and Powell's early performance as manager, but it will count for nothing in his eyes if it is not backed up against the Seasiders.

International break a nuisance, not a blessing

Mark Hudson spoke to the media before his manager and suggested the two-week interval had been a welcome one, as it allowed everyone in the camp to recuperate and afforded Powell more time to get to know the players.

But the manager espoused an alternative stance and revealed a hint of frustration at not being able to maintain the momentum his side had built up over the space of three matches.

And that is understandable, given that the latest three-game period offered the most profitable return of his tenure so far and finally illustrated some tangible consistency from the Terriers.

The fortnight-long hiatus consisted of some time away from the training pitches for each of the playing and coaching staff, as well as various fitness tests and drills to ensure there would be no resting on their laurels.

There will be an onus on Town to continue their promising run of form when they entertain the Seasiders but it was clear that Powell was frustrated by having to bide his time over the next match action and looks to be itching for Saturday's contest.

Mixed news on the injury front

Powell sounded downbeat about the verdict on James Vaughan from his medical experts and the fact he is still "weeks" away from a first-team return must be of concern to the Town boss, who has only been able to get 26 minutes from the striker.

There was, however, more positive news to report in that Joe Lolley could soon be set to return to the first-team fold.

When you factor in Radoslaw Majewski's impending return to action too, the midfield unit looks much stronger.

There was no further prognosis on the likes of Anthony Gerrard and Martin Paterson, but the fact Oscar Gobern was also name-checked suggests Powell will soon have more central midfield options to call upon.

Vaughan's latest woes will undoubtedly stick as the main talking point, but it should equally be remembered that Town are not exactly faring too badly in his absence.

Hudson the right man to lead Town's new era

The towering defender explained his pride at being named the club's new skipper and his manager believes he always had the perfect candidate amongst his ranks.

Powell accepted there was a temptation to name him from the outset but sensibly thought better of that to allow the deadline-day signing from Cardiff City a bedding-in period in his new surroundings and to ensure Lee Peltier would not feel alienated by an immediate change in leadership.

It feels like the right decision at the right time for the club and Powell clearly felt it made sense given both the commanding performances which have embellished the start to his Terriers career and the ongoing competition for the right-back spot between Peltier and Tommy Smith.

It's another issue from the in-tray settled as far as the manager is concerned and allows his team to move forward as one, with Peltier naturally gracious about the decision.

The last international break played host to Town's appointment of a new manager while this one has presented Town's new on-field leader as the Powell era enters its next phase.

Nothing imminent but nothing ruled out on the transfer front

The rumours regarding Danny Ward's future were flatly knocked back by Powell, who insisted no contact had been made and while the Town boss refuted the idea anything will happen in the coming days, there were clues that incomings or outgoings may not be too far over the horizon.

Doubts linger over the long-term futures of a few players, but Powell was keen to stress his focus on the present and did not get caught up too much in the conjecture.

Likewise, he also didn't move to vehemently put a stop to the suggestion of players moving on or arriving and - when pressed on whether central midfield was one area in need of attention - he chose to cast his net wider and said all positions could be under consideration.

With the loan window deadline falling in November, short-term decisions over playing personnel are likely to be reached in the coming weeks, rather than days.

There was also no update to be had on rumoured trialist Wout Brama.
