AFC EMLEY are still waiting to find out if they will be facing Penistone Church or Barnsley side Shaw Lane Aquaforce in the Northern Counties East League First Division this season.

The Football Association are to rule on which of the pair will be promoted from the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce were the runaway champions, but there are question marks over the suitability of the ground they share with Barnsley’s rugby union club.

Penistone finished third, three points behind second-placed Millmoor Juniors and 12 behind Shaw Lane, and are the next highest club who applied for promotion.

Church were formed in 1906 from the amalgamation of two local sides and three years later were the first winners of the Sheffield FA Junior Cup.

They were founder members of the County Senior League in 1990 and won the First Division in 1994 and 2001. They lifted the League Cup last year.

The club have confirmed home friendlies against Worksop Town on Friday, July 12, and Athersley Recreation on Friday 19.
