Duane Holmes has been challenged to impress in training at Huddersfield Town following his return from loan at Bury.

The teenage midfielder – he will be 20 next Thursday - made seven substitute appearances with the League II side.

He has previously been loaned to Yeovil, but he is now back at his parent club with new boss Chris Powell keen to see what he can do.

“It was Duane’s second loan and he wasn’t getting as much game time as we envisaged – but it’s about experience, too, and dealing with the setbacks of not playing,” said Powell.

“Bury have been doing quite well of late, so that’s limited his opportunities, so we felt it was right for Duane to come back and get going with us.”

Holmes’ only appearance for Town this season was in the Capital One Cup defeat against Nottingham Forest before Powell arrived at the club.

“I have spoken to Duane a couple of times and it was a mutual decision between us and Bury that maybe it was better for him to return to us and see what happens from here.

“I have known about him and he is one of our Academy products, but like all the others he has to work hard because we have a big squad.

“He will have his chance and he has to impress me on the training ground and show me what he is about on a day to day basis.”
