Former Huddersfield Town captain Robert Page has been confirmed as the new Port Vale manager to replace Micky Adams, who resigned from the position last month.

The 40-year-old has took charge on a caretaker basis during September in the wake of Adams' exit and has masterminded a turnaround in form which has seen the Valiants move up to 16th in League One.

Page, who has taken the reins at Vale Park until at least the end of the season, told the club's official website: "I am really pleased. I had a conversation with the chairman and he has offered me the opportunity to manage the club, which I am very grateful for.

"I think the difference in the approach to games, especially at home, is there for everyone to see and long may it continue.

"This is a proud moment for myself and I would like to thank the fans and players for their support, which will continue to be important in the future.”

Page signed for Town from Coventry City in January 2008 and made his debut later that month in an FA Cup fourth-round win at Oldham Athletic.

He was also made captain for the final throes of the league season after Andy Ritchie's departure, with caretaker Gerry Murphy taking the armband from Jon Worthington but was unable to agree a deal with the Terriers and moved to Chesterfield in the summer.

Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite added: "Having stepped up under difficult circumstances, I am pleased with the way in which Rob has implemented an attractive style of play and turned around the club’s home form.

"It has been a difficult few months but I believe this signals the start of a new era at the club and that this is the best possible outcome for the fans, players and staff

"Rob has stepped up to the mark and hopefully our form will continue to go from strength to strength under his leadership."
