Former Huddersfield Town coach Steve Watson is eyeing the managerial vacancy at National League Gateshead.

The former Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday player worked alongside Lee Clark at both Town and Birmingham City.

Gateshead sacked Malcolm Crosby in the wake of their 4-1 home defeat by FC Halifax Town.

And Geordie Watson, 41, is reported to be interested.

Meanwhile former Town defender Darren Edmondson has parted company with National League Barrow by mutual consent.

Ex-Mansfield Town and Torquay United boss Paul Cox has been handed the managerial reins at Holker Street.

Edmondson, 44, had been in charge since December 2013 and led Barrow to the National League North title last season.

The Bluebirds lost 3-1 at Dover on Saturday.

Full-back Edmondson, who has also managed Workington, made 43 Town appearances after signing from Carlisle United for £225,000 in March 1997.

He also played for York City and Chester.
